The changing role of skilled nursing facilities

Just as the notion of what’s considered ‘old’ has changed in today’s society … think ‘70 is the new 50′ … so too has the role and function of skilled nursing facilities. Gerald Coggin, Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations for NHC has witnessed transformative change in the long-term care industry during his more than four decades with NHC. Coggin said the notion of a ‘nursing home’ as the last stop for seniors before they die is simply outdated. “We are serving more patients than we’ve ever served, but the length of stay is much shorter than it’s ever been,” said Coggin.
